I'm impressed there are trees for letters like X and Z

"A few of the trees I’ve loved before" - this was such a nice reflection point and made me think about the meaningful trees in my own life

Love this post and will have to try and find a physical copy of the book. It looks and sounds so lovely.

As far as tree related memories I can think of a few:

- We had a huge maple try in our backyard where we hung rope swings, watched birds and often enjoyed the shade in the summers. One year it got struck by lightning and it lost a large branch, but the rest still stood up until a couple years ago.

- Our family also had a single line of fruit trees along the south side of our property: cherry, apple, a couple pear and one peach. Every other year the cherry trees produced sooo much fruit that we’d have to invite friends and neighbors over to help harvest and share in the abundance.

- The last one was at my grandma’s house. A line of pine trees where I would search for hummingbird nests. Sometimes getting sticky with sap since it would fall under the trees.

Thanks for making me recall these tree inspired memories.

I love love loved your stories of trees you have loved and have read it several times over the past few days 🥹

Your first tree reminds me of a tree I knew nearby my grandparents place that had an oldfashioned tire swing that I loved. That is until tire swings were deemed unsafe and it was removed. The tree as well, I believe :,(

It is so incredible how bountiful fruit trees are and the amazing connections that can be built with the people around you through them! What a joy. Even the wild, or as I have seen them called “feral”

(Haha!) apple trees in the parklands near our place draw plenty: both in delicious fruit we harvest but also in delightful conversations with strangers.

Did you ever find any hummingbird nests? I remember one year as a child I found a perfectly preserved nest knocked down by a windstorm with one tiny hummingbird egg in it (sadly unalive). I still have it to this day! I also found a very small nest this year, on a mildly ill-fated walk during my bacterial infection this summer 😂 I was feeling better enough for a walk and then felt the nest was a SignTM that all would be well. Unfortunately for me, I immediately got sicker and no such Sign had occurred 🤣🤭

Glad you liked the stories Emma, it was nice to be able to step back and reflect on them. We loved our tire swing and I loved that tree, it's sadly now gone too. The limb that came down in the storm years ago allowed water to sit and rot the bottom so it had to be taken down before it came down on my childhood home.

Yeah, I love seeing fruit trees packed with abundance! There are so many here in Portland: plum, pear, apple... I love it! It is cool how they can bring people together.

Honestly I keep reflecting back on this post and more trees keep coming to mind.

I believe we did, I don't remember for sure but I have vague memories of a tiny test. Definitely saw lots of hummingbirds!

Oh man, that's a bummer but cool that you still have a nest!
