I'm with you on the I feel like I "should" listen to podcasts on the climate and politics. And on green design or technology or the web. I don't know but none of that interests me right now. Instead of any podcasts I've been watching all the YouTube videos about chord progressions, music theory, music lawsuits, how to sing, etc. So deep in the music world but it's so much more interesting!

I also don't consume art or design media at all. The Adobe Max promotions have made me realize how much design is just a job to me. Their videos make me want to run away and tell everyone to find hobbies outside of design 🤣

Omg haha there are green design podcasts? Wow XD

The music lawsuit ones seem to be the perfect interesting but also relaxing in that you can just listen without feeling to super deeply memorize or retain the information.

I swear, Adobe max is the most overhyped thing in this industry.

The themes of the podcasts i listen to are psychology (Mel Robbins, and Jen Gunter's Body Stuff), literary (the stories of Mahabharata), history (Behind the Bastards), and entertainment (SmartLess), plus a few other ones i've just subscribed to on Google Podcasts. For the ones i don't need to pay much attention to understand what they say, i just play them and do other stuff. For others, i sit on a couch and listen attentively.

So cool! I definitely also have that distinction between the chill vibes ones I can just play whenever and then the ones I want to think more carefully about and try and retain the information on! I've been flirting with the idea of making a commonplace book to record some of the things I listen to / read in a more intentional way so I can reference back instead of feeling like I have to skim through a podcast to find a particular spot that I wanted to remember.

So glad to hear that. Go for it. Start small and make it more (that's my method for doing sth new. Your method may be different than mine).

I totally agree! I'm definitely prone to aspiring to too much and then burning out XD

I really enjoy finding like-minded or near like-minded people who are like me. TBH, I've caught myself a few times aspiring too much and quickly be discouraged after a short time. When you aspire too much, it's like you wanna lift a heavier weight than you can (some have told me i'm good at using analogies to make my points more understandable).

My "I should" podcasts are about like, feminism and diversity in cinema but I've never listened to the ones I picked out for the same reason :') I listen to podcast in my "i want to forget problems" relax time so listening to everything that's wrong in cinema is just..sad. So I don't haha what I actively listen to is little art podcasts just talking about basic small industry things like how to make a portfolio, and when even that gets too much I just stick to music.

I love all the different themes everyone's listening to for their favourite vs shoulds! History and media are coming up on both sides!

I am SO with you in just wanting to forget! Podcasts are for relax time for me too.

I feel this way about podcasts too, but honestly my brain is not made for podcasts. I can’t focus on them if I do other stuff in the meantime and I don’t have the time or inclination to sit down and just listen. I also feel that way about what I call “book club” books and biz books. I’ve stopped fighting it 😂

I totally can't do Biz Books or book club things either bwahhaa. And I RARELY listen to a podcast outside of biology stuff - I think possibly it's because that area is a bit harder to find books on, so fills a special niche for me. I also listen to them on the bus when I can't read or I'll throw up haha.

But I agree that I can't get into most podcasts honestly. It's hard to not get distracted. Some people like live and breathe them but I'll pick reading on my kobo 98% of the time over a podcast.
